What Is Applied Behavior Analysis?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the application of behavioral principles under everyday circumstances in order to bring about meaningful changes in behavior. Assessment is ongoing; using both observation and direct measurement such as rate and duration to determine the functional relationship between behavior and the environment. Environmental modifications are designed and implemented based on this relationship.
ABA relies heavily on the use of data to determine the effects of treatment on behavior, track progress, and make informed decisions regarding changes to the the treatment plan. In order to record data, behaviors must be defined in observable and measurable terms. For this reason, ABA focuses on external events rather than internal or hypothetical constructs that cannot be observed or manipulated.

What can ABA do for me?Behavior refers to both problem behaviors such as aggression or self-injury and adaptive behaviors such as requesting and independent living skills. ABA can be used to decrease problem behavior, teach new skills, and increase or generalize existing skills. ABA programs are highly individualized to meet the current needs of each child.
